Lord Plumb was President of the European Parliament from 1987-1989.  He is also a Former President of the International Federation of Agricultural Producers (IFAP) (1979-1982), Professional Agricultural Organizations Committee (COPA), National Farmers Union of England and Wales (1970-1979), Royal Agricultural Society of England (1977).  Lord Plumb was Chairman of the British Agricultural Council (1975-1979) and is a former non-executive Director of United Biscuits.  He serves on the boards of Lloyd's Bank, Fisons, Ltd, and Midland Mart.  Charles Henry Plumb knighted in 1973, received the Knight Commander's Cross of Germany, and was created a Life Peer in 1987.  He first took his seat in the House of Lords in April 1987. Lord Plumb is a founding member and former chairman of the International Food & Agricultural Trade Policy Council.  He has taken an active and involved interest in world trade and the developed world's relationship with developing countries, believing in "helping developing countries to help develop themselves."  Amongst his many roles, he is President of Farm Africa, a governor of the Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester, Chancellor of Coventry university and President of Camden and Chorley Wood Food Research Association.  Lord Plumb lives and farms in Warwickshire, England.
