This seminar allowed the IPC to inform regional agricultural representatives about the challenges their countries could face as the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) process proceeds, as well as what it should mean in the 1999 WTO round. The IPC agreed that efforts must be made to ensure that the development of the FTAA be compatible with the WTO rules framework, and that the agricultural sector must be assured of an integral place in any FTAA Agreement.
